Your Patient, Our Hospital The Emergency Service
If a pet is presented to the emergency service and requires immediate stabilization, the client is asked to sign a consent form for treatment. After initial stabilization is performed, the emergency doctor discusses the diagnostic and treatment options with the client, as well as the costs associated with treatment.
If the pet is assessed to be stable at initial triage, there may be a wait before the pet is seen. The policy at BSVESS is to see patients in order of arrival, unless a patient’s condition requires immediate attention. We make every effort to keep the client’s wait to a minimum. After an initial consultation, the client will be presented with diagnostic and treatment options and the costs of care will be discussed (see Payment Policy). We offer CareCredit and ScratchPay to clients who need it, but unfortunately we do not offer in-house payment plans and our funding for clients in need is very limited.
We accept cash, checks and credit card payments. We do not offer payment plans but do accept CareCredit and Scratchpay, which offer interest-free financing options. We are also linked to an account with Waggle - an online crowd-funding site which some clients may be eligible to pursue.
The Specialty Services
If your patient would benefit from seeing a specialist, and is not in need of immediate or same day attention, we strongly advise that they make an appointment. We encourage you to call so we can help determine how best to get your patient the appointment they need. If the patient cannot wait for an appointment, they can be seen through the emergency service, but we are often able to accommodate a patient’s needs and get them in with the appropriate specialist in a timely manner.

If you are referring a patient to BSVESS and have performed diagnostics at your clinic, then please send the medical record, including radiographs and lab work, to: baystate@bsvess.com. You may also fax the record or send copies with the client. Our referral form is available for online submission or PDF download for your convenience:

If one of your patients is seen by the emergency service, or by one of our specialists, you will receive an email notification from Shareville. Shareville is our online medical records portal where you can access your patients’ records in real time. You will be notified by email when your patient checks in and checks out of the hospital. The notification emails will include a link to access the Shareville portal. Here is a PDF that includes instructions for how to access Shareville or click here to login. You may login to the portal by creating a password associated with your email address. In the portal, you will have access to download all of your patients’ medical records. After the patient is discharged, the completed medical record should be accessible through the Shareville portal, which will include the discharge and follow-up instructions. If you would prefer to have your patient transferred back to your clinic for further care, please feel free to call and speak with the doctor on the case. We also encourage you to call at any time during this patient’s hospitalization if you are interested in being updated on the patient’s condition or would like to be involved in treatment decisions.

Consultations with the internist or surgeons are available by appointment. Endoscopic evaluations and biopsies are performed at BSVESS, as are most soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures. Patients that require CT scan or MRI may be transferred to OSVS, but most patients can be managed in-house.
